books 'n' birds

i was at my parents place yesterday and i found all the photo albums from when i was a baby. It's a sad fact of modern life that all my photos now exist on an external hard drive rather than in a pretty album, carefully constructed for future viewing.
Yesterday i came across a photo of myself at about four years of age. i was sitting on my bunk bed reading a book. In this photo, there is a poster of different bird species stuck next to my bed.
This photo struck me because i feel like i have not changed at all since this picture was taken. i still love birds with a weird passion (although not real ones, more like photos, paintings, the concept of a bird) and books are like my best friend and secret lover all wrapped up into a glorious bit sized portion of escapism.
Do we really change so much in our lifetime? Sure, jobs, relationships, favourite tv shows are all variable but what lays secretly nestled in our souls? I feel like that photo could have been taken yesterday. Even my hair is the same colour! The only difference is that i had slightly better fashion sense when my choice of clothing was limited to hand me downs from my big sisters.
Other things i discovered by looking at old photos:
  • i have always been clumsy (and i have the black eyes to prove it)
  • I was not always afraid of dogs (there is a photo of me kissing one on the back)
  • My dad had great clothes pre children.
  • My mum had great boobs, again, pre children.
  • i was not cut out for ballet.
until next time......
